Fondation Mérieux, EpiConcept and CORDS are running a new five day course on epidemiology in complex emergencies. The course objectives are to strengthen participant’s knowledge and skills related to the response of communicable disease outbreaks affecting a country in the context of a complex emergency situation.
The course aims to prepare epidemiologists to contribute to the multidisciplinary and international response to complex emergencies, and to apply their epidemiological skills to serve public health interventions. Previous knowledge of infectious diseases and epidemiological methods is a pre-requisite.
The 25 participants will look at two main scenarios over the course of a week: the Haiti earthquake and subsequent cholera outbreak and the Ebola outbreak in West Africa. Facilitators from national public health institutes, UN agencies as well as NGO’s will run the course.
A grant from Skoll Global Threats Fund will cover the registration, lodging and meals for participants.
