“Ending Pandemics is in our future. We are far from realizing the full power of collaborative forces necessary to prevent the global spread of a new virus. We have, however, made incredible progress in identifying critical factors for the emergence of new diseases and in helping build capacity to identify and respond to outbreaks more rapidly in disease ‘hotpspots’. Unless we start socializing a greater understanding of where diseases are likely to pop up and why they’re happening, we’ll continue to have outbreaks, we’ll continue to respond to crises. And we’ll wonder why the public is surprised every time.”
